YOLA-Youth Orchestra LA
YOLA families are engaged in making music themselves while supporting their children’s development, with the vision that YOLA neighborhoods (South LA, the Rampart District, and East LA) become vibrant centers of musical culture with a deepened sense of community. YOLA is inspired by El Sistema, the Venezuelan music education system that nurtured Dudamel in his youth.
LA Phil Music Director Gustavo Dudamel believes that "music is a fundamental human right." Through one of the largest arts education programs in Los Angeles County, the LA Phil is ensuring that the joy of music and music-making is part of the lives of the more than 120,000 schoolchildren, teachers, families, young musicians and concertgoers that participate in the LA Phil’s Educational Initiatives each year. The Max H. Gluck Foundation provides leadership support for two LA Phil
initiatives: Youth Orchestra LA (YOLA) and Symphonies for Schools.
