Harmony Project
Youth Orchestra
Harmony Project is an award-winning, research-based 501(c)(3) non-profit that targets at-risk youth in underserved communities, promoting positive development through year-round music lessons and ensemble participation, provided, along with instruments, at no charge to students.
For over a decade, our programs have used music to keep kids in school and out of trouble, helping them develop life skills needed for future success. Now with the support of the Gluck Foundation and the Herb Alpert Foundation, Harmony Project has expanded into the Lennox, Lawndale, and Wiseburn school districts forming our first Regional Youth Orchestra. On Saturdays, all of the students from the three school districts come together along with their parents and siblings to make music.
Harmony Project’s work with underserved youth was recognized in 2009, when we received the Coming Up Taller Award, the nation’s highest honor for an arts-based youth program, and in 2011, when Dr. Margaret Martin received the Citizen’s Medal from President Barack Obama for her work in founding our organization.
