The Gluck Foundation's support of LA Opera's Elementary Student Matinee and Tour brings the sensory richness of opera to elementary students in five regional venues across Los Angeles County. Performances take place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and in venues within each of the Los Angeles County Supervisory Districts, accommodating students for whom the cost and distance to travel to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion would make the experience prohibitive. Over 6,000 students experience a specially commissioned opera that combines artistic excellence with curricular connections.

 

Teachers receive educational materials and attend a professional development workshop, helping them to integrate the performance into classroom learning. In 2011/12 and 2012/13 LA Opera presents The Magic Dream, a wildly imaginative and engaging celebration of Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute.
